David Forman

David Forman’s first career was as a calligrapher. His second was as a psychology researcher and teacher. Grandson of the Yiddish writer Solomon Simon, Forman began studying Yiddish in his 50s, in order to read his grandfather's work. Since then, he has worked with Yiddish as a librarian, translator and teacher. In 2021, his translation of Simon's Dos Kluge Shnayderl was published in a bilingual edition as The Clever Little Tailor. He has also contributed translations to the Yosl and Chana Mlotek Yiddish Songs Collection at the Workers Circle. He currently teaches an Elementary Yiddish class at Cornell University and has been sharing, in installments, his translation of Solomon Simon's account of a trip to Israel in 1949.
