Adi Mahalel

University of Maryland, College Park

Dr. Adi Mahalel is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Yiddish Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park. He earned his PhD in Yiddish Studies from Columbia University, where his research focused on modern Jewish literatures. His book, The Radical Isaac: I. L. Peretz and the Rise of Jewish Socialism, was published by SUNY Press in 2023. His forthcoming translation and scholarly introduction of Hanan Ayalti’s Yiddish novel Bum un keytn (set in Mandatory Palestine) will be published by Wayne State University Press in 2025. Dr. Mahalel's work has been featured in peer-reviewed journals, including AJS Review, Studies in American Jewish Literature, and Israel Studies Review. He has taught courses on Jewish culture, Yiddish literature, and language at institutions such as Columbia University and the YIVO Institute’s Summer Program. Additionally, he contributes to the Yiddish Forward, writing on cultural, political, and social issues.
