Michael Yashinsky is currently a Fellow at the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, MA. The grandson of Rube Weiss and Elizabeth Elkin Weiss, radio pioneers and career actors in Detroit, Michael finished his degree in Modern European History and Literature at Harvard, then returned to his hometown to direct productions at the Detroit Opera House. In Michigan, he also directed a talented bunch of high school students in an all-Yiddish production of S. Dayksel's fantastical drama Nokh tsvelf baynakht (After Midnight) that the Forverts called "historish." A play Michael wrote, Picture Imperfect, will premiere in April 2016 in the Indianapolis mansion of President Benjamin Harrison, who once appeared to him in a spooky dream.
