LeiAnna X. Hamel is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Smith College's Program in Jewish Studies. She received a Ph.D. in Slavic Languages and Literatures with a graduate certificate in Jewish Culture and Society from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Her research focuses on gender and sexuality, intersections between literature and science, and women's writing. Her current book project is titled "Undisciplined Bodies: Deviant Female Sexuality in Russian and Yiddish Cultures." It examines representations of women's eroticism and sexuality in Yiddish and Russian literary, medical, and journalistic texts from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
