Agnieszka Ilwicka

Agnieszka Ilwicka is a Polish-born Yiddishist and oral historian. She holds a BA in Classical Studies (Mediterranean Culture and Languages) and a Masters of Research in Jewish Studies from the University of Southampton and a Masters of Art in Polish Literature, with a specialty in Jewish Studies from the University of Wroclaw. She was awarded a government scholarship in Israel to study Hebrew language and post-war history at the Bar-Ilan University. She was also a fellow at the Yiddish Book Center (2012/2013) and thanks to the YBC she brought back to Poland more than 3000 books published in Yiddish that are now available in twelve libraries across Poland. Since 2016 she has been working in Berkeley, CA at the Taube Foundation for Jewish Life & Culture. In her free time she continues to collect oral stories from Jewish immigrants who used to live in Poland, specifically in Lower Silesia, after WWII. Some of the stories are available here.
