Yael Chaver

Dr. Yael Chaver is Israeli-born, and a native Yiddish, Hebrew, and English speaker. She has written books and articles in Hebrew and English, and lectured widely, mainly about Yiddish culture in pre-statehood Israel. Yael taught Yiddish, Hebrew, and Jewish culture at UC Berkeley for many years. Now that she is retired, she continues to teach and lead reading groups in the community. As a translation fellow of the Yiddish Book Center, with Prof. Shachar Pinsker, she has recently completed a translation of Jebeliya, Yitzchok Perlov’s important novel of 1948 Israel. White Goat Press will be publishing their translation in the Fall of 2026.
