Printable Bronx Bohemian Fashion Paper Dolls

INTRODUCTION

The Bronx Bohemians, as our friends at the Yiddish Book Center have termed the circle of Yiddish writers, artists, performers, and culture makers who attended Bertha Kling’s salon, were a stylish bunch. Their clothing is sometimes as delightful as their writing, so we are giving you an opportunity to focus on this underadmired aspect of Yiddish writers’ material lives.

Maybe you’ve read their stories, novels, poetry, and plays. Maybe you’ve combed through their letters, sifted through their scrapbooks. But you’ve never had the opportunity to bring them to life until now. All you’ll need is a printer, a pair of scissors, some colored pencils, markers, or crayons, and your own imagination, and the lively world of Yiddish literati will be at your very fingertips. Here is a link to the paper dolls pdf.

Now Yiddishists of all ages can play-act the Bronx Bohemians as they swim, play guitar, chat about poetry, and read their work publicly, and connect with one another in real-life, in-person (or at least in-paper) friendships.

Here’s what you have to do:

Step 1: Print out the pdf of the paper dolls that can be found here.

Step 2: Color in the clothes and figures.

Step 3: Cut out the clothing and figures, as well as the stands.

Step 4: Fit the paper dolls into the stands.

Step 5: Dress the dolls and fold down the tabs so that the clothes remain in place.

Step 6: Play!
