Reyzl Zylberman and Daniel Goldberg, Yiddish Sof Vokh Committee members, celebrating Yiddish with Bingo and Bluey
A Bluey episode called ‘Yiddish Sof-Vokh Oystraliye’ is being made available globally for the first time.
The episode follows Bluey’s family on a Road Trip from their home in Brisbane to a camp an hour outside of Melbourne to spend the weekend in Yiddishland. There they attend a leyenkrayz and make the classic literature more funny by renaming Tevye and having him ride a dirt bike, play a cheeky game of Cafe because Mum won’t let Bingo have babka, and teach their grandpa Bob to floss, all in Yiddish.
Yiddish Sof-Vokh Oystralia has been ongoing for twenty years, but because it’s a little bit in ek-velt this episode was first only shown to Australian audiences. It will be released to global audiences initially through Sweden’s state television network, and then on Official Bluey YouTube and Bluey.tv.
In geveb was granted the opportunity to publish a snippet of the script and a few exclusive stills from the episode:
[The sun is setting, Bandit is seen packing things into the car, as Bluey and Bingo exit the house and go to the car]
Bluey: How long will it take to get there?
Bandit: A long time.
Bluey: What if I get bored?
Bandit: Shlog zikh kop in vant!
[Bandit shoves the 'last' bit of stuff in the car, and shuts the car door.]
Chilli: [whilst carrying many large bags] Are you sure?
[Chilli drops the bags down on the ground.]
Bandit: What's this?
Chilli: Our English-Yiddish Dictionaries.
Bandit: Oy, rugelakh.
[The title card appears, with Yiddish sof-vokh Oystraliye merch.]
Bluey: This episode of Bluey is called 'Yiddish Sof-Vokh Oystraliye’.
