In geveb seeks a new member of our editorial staff for the 2025-2026 publishing year. The managing editor will work as part of the small & dedicated team of part-time editors that solicit, edit, and produce content across all sections of In geveb (peer review articles, reviews, blog essays, pedagogy, and translation). We seek a highly organized editor to support our editor-in-chief in overseeing and coordinating the submissions, editing, and publishing processes of In geveb. The managing editor will also participate in editing contributions to the blog and pedagogy sections of In geveb. In geveb is a small non-profit organization and as such we seek editors who are committed to our mission of being the central address for the study of all things Yiddish—the focal point for discussions of Yiddish literature, language, and culture, and the home for the next generation of Yiddish scholarship. Our part-time editorial positions are envisioned as valuable professional development experience for advanced Yiddish graduate students, early career scholars, independent researchers/scholars/teachers of Yiddish and others involved in the worlds of Yiddish studies, arts & culture, who are looking to develop skills as editors, project managers, non-profit professionals, and related fields. This position is for an initial one year contract with the possibility of renewal for the following year.

Time and compensation: 8-12 hours/week, September 1 2025–June 30 2026 (38 paid weeks total, 2 weeks break around high holidays and 3 week winter break). Paid at $24 hour. Total stipend is $7296-10,944 paid in 4 quarterly installments.

Position responsibilities:

- Oversee the publishing calendar for In geveb: keep track of submissions and editing process of in progress pieces across all sections of the journal through communication with other editors, including organizing meetings of the editorial staff.

- Communication with writers during final production stages: send & receive contracts, confirm bios, author photos, last minute edits, proofs if requested

- Final proof of all pieces before publication: check web formatting, footnotes, tags

- Assist chief editor in editing of blog submissions primarily and other sections as needed (esp. pedagogy), including building web pages/uploading pieces to website

- Maintain a spreadsheet of the status of in-progress blog and pedagogy pieces and check in with the editors periodically to make sure it is accurate

- Budget & payments: keep track of contracts from writers, pay writers upon publication (via paypal; notify treasurer of payments by check), save monthly invoices & receipts for accountant

Qualifications:

We are open to a range of experience types and backgrounds, please address your experience in the following areas:

- Familiarity with In geveb and Yiddish studies and/or arts & culture

- Experience as an editor

- Experience with editing and building webpages

- Project management experience

- Familiarity with the following systems or similar: Google drive and gmail; Basecamp (project management site); Mailchimp

- Highly organized and self-motivated worker; proactive communicator
