Managing Editor/Development Associate

POSITION OVERVIEW

In geveb is seeking to hire a new member of our editorial team who will take an active role in the collaborative work of the journal. The new position will range between 5-10 hours a week, depending on the availability and interest of the applicant. This position is for the 2019-2020 academic year, with the possibility of renewal. Salary range: $4,000-8,000 annually.

An ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about performing all or some of the following tasks (the scope of the position will be determined in a conversation with the applicant):

  • Development Tasks: Working with the Senior Editor and Editor-in-Chief in fundraising, events planning, grantwriting and reporting, seeking and applying to new sources of funding, and acknowledging donors.
  • Editorial Tasks: Assisting the Editor-in-Chief and Communications Editor in soliciting, evaluating, editing, and preparing materials for the blog and pedagogy sections of In geveb.
  • Organizational Tasks: Coordinating editorial meetings and preparing a bi-weekly newsletter

In addition, an ideal candidate will be a supportive, creative, and motivated member of the editorial team, participating in collaborative projects and supporting new initiatives.

We are looking for someone who will work closely with all members of the In geveb team and who has excellent independent time-management and organizational skills.

This is a part-time, remote position.


QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRED SKILLS

We’re looking for an energetic partner who is excited to share new ideas and to build on the work that we are doing to expand Yiddish Studies scholarship, pedagogy, translation, and community. The position requires a candidate who:

  • Is incredibly organized and can manage a variety of projects with a wide range of deadlines.
  • Has knowledge and enthusiasm for Yiddish language and Yiddish Studies.
  • Is a strong writer with editorial experience or a desire to learn editorial skills.
  • Has experience in grantwriting or fundraising, or a desire to learn those skills. Can write reports, acknowledgment letters and copy for publicity materials.
  • Has experience in or enthusiasm for organizing fundraising events.


EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree required, Masters degree or above in Yiddish or a related field is a plus.
  • Previous experience with writing and editing.
  • Previous experience with digital strategy, grantwriting, or online fundraising is a plus.

Peer Review Editorial Associate

POSITION OVERVIEW

In geveb is looking for a new member to join of our editorial team. The new member will take an active role in the collaborative work of the journal. The new position will average between 5-7 hours a week, depending on the availability and interest of the applicant. The position is unpaid. This position is for the 2019-2020 academic year, with the possibility of renewal.

An ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about performing all or some of the following tasks (the scope of the position will be determined in a conversation with the applicant):

Editorial Tasks:

  • Working with the Peer Review Editors to identify new scholarly areas of research in Yiddish Studies
  • Working with the Peer Review Editors to identify new and diverse Yiddish-related scholarly publications for review
  • Assisting the Senior Editor and Peer Review Editor in manuscript evaluation, editing, and preparation.

Organizational Tasks:

  • Soliciting and coordinating double-blind peer reviews of articles, in coordination with editors
  • Soliciting and coordinating book reviews, in coordination with editors

In addition, an ideal candidate will be a supportive, creative, and motivated member of the editorial team, participating in collaborative projects and supporting new initiatives.

We are looking for someone who has excellent independent time-management and organizational skills.

This is a part-time, unpaid, remote position.

  • Is organized and can manage a variety of projects with a wide range of deadlines.
  • Is a strong writer with editorial experience or a desire to learn editorial skills for academic writing

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Masters degree required with a focus on Yiddish studies; Preference given to Ph.D. candidates who are ABD
  • Previous experience with academic writing
  • Previous experience with coordinating multi-tiered scholarly projects
